Scratch Programming

"Scratch is a programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art -- and share your creations on the web.As young people create and share Scratch projects, they learn important mathematical and computational ideas, while also learning to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively."

Scratch is easy to use. At the ABC we begin working with the program in 7th grade, but in other schools around the world students begin as early on as 3rd grade. The interface is easy to use as programing scripts are selected from groups of blocks and snapped into place. Students can create their own stages and sprites(characters) as well and sounds or use those that come with the program. They can download and utilise projects created by others to find new ways of doing things and have the option of remixing these projects. Scratch can be used across the subjects to create interesting projects, such as digital stories and animations, presentations, and games and more. The program is free to download from the Scratch website.

ScratchEd is an online community for Scratch educators, full of resources, discussions, stories and events can be accessed and shared.
